Mexico isn’t just a destination; it’s a feeling.
Every place here celebrates love differently. Some weddings feel loud and joyful; others feel calm and intimate. Some invite movement, music, and long nights, while others ask you to slow down and stay present.

What I love most about photographing destination weddings in Mexico is that each location offers a completely different experience not just visually, but emotionally. These are my top five places to get married if you want your wedding to feel real, intentional, and deeply connected to where you are.

1. Oaxaca: where weddings turn into celebrations

Oaxaca is for couples who want their wedding to feel alive. This is a place where celebrations don’t stay inside venues, they move through the streets, filled with music, color, and shared joy.

After photographing more than ten weddings in Oaxaca, I’ve learned how the city breathes. I know when the light softens, which streets feel calm, and how to move through a calenda without interrupting the energy. That kind of experience allows couples to fully enjoy the moment while everything flows naturally.

The calendas are pure magic, joyful processions with live music, dancing, and emotion that pulls everyone in. Add incredible food, mezcal moments, and long tables where laughter happens naturally, and you get a celebration that feels honest and unforgettable. Oaxaca doesn’t try to impress, it invites you to feel.

2. San Miguel de Allende: romantic, timeless, and effortlessly editorial

If Oaxaca is movement, San Miguel is romance. This city feels like it was made to be photographed: cobblestone streets, warm tones, historic doors, and soft sunsets that wrap everything in golden light.

The iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel is one of the most visually striking churches in Mexico, perfect for couples dreaming of a religious ceremony in a truly unique setting. One of my favorite moments here is walking with couples after the ceremony, letting the city become part of the story while guests linger nearby.

San Miguel is also incredibly guest-friendly: beautiful hotels, amazing restaurants, and a walkable layout that turns the wedding into a full weekend experience. It’s ideal for couples who love elegance, architecture, and moments that feel naturally cinematic.

3. Valle de Guadalupe: sunsets, vineyards, and slow celebrations

Valle de Guadalupe is all about atmosphere. Wide-open landscapes, vineyards, and warm weather create weddings that feel relaxed, modern, and deeply connected to nature.

This is the place for couples who care about great food and good conversations. Long dinners at sunset, local cuisine, wine flowing slowly, weddings here feel unhurried and intentional. I’ve seen couples truly relax in the Valley, letting the day unfold without rushing from one moment to the next.

4. Mexico City: versatility, culture, and endless possibilities

Mexico City is perfect for couples who want options. As the capital of Mexico, it’s one of the easiest destinations for guests traveling from abroad, thanks to flight connections and infrastructure.

What makes CDMX special is its contrast. Historic mansions, modern venues, rooftops, gardens, there’s a space for almost every style and budget. One of my favorite things to photograph here is the getting-ready moments: beautiful light, strong design, and a sense of calm before the city comes alive.

Mexico City is ideal if you want a wedding with personality: urban, stylish, and full of visual layers.

5. Mérida: calm elegance and timeless haciendas

If you’re drawn to slower rhythms and timeless beauty, Mérida is truly something special. It’s one of the most charming cities in Mexico, filled with soft light, pastel tones, and an atmosphere that feels warm and welcoming.

Mérida is home to some of the most beautiful haciendas in the country. These spaces offer history, texture, open courtyards, and a sense of quiet elegance. Personally, I find that couples truly slow down here; they’re more present, more connected, and that shows so clearly in the photos.

It’s perfect for couples who want a refined wedding without feeling rushed, a place where presence matters more than production.
